Notes on metal and gauge:
 
Cold rolled steel:
Preferred choice for live action role-playing
It is a metal which is going to rust if no protector is used.
 
I use 2 thicknesses.
- 18 gauge .0478 inches 1.2 mm in thickness. Weight is 2 lbs by square foot.
This is the least expensive price for steels.
 
- 16 gauge .0599 inches 1.5mm of thickness. Weight is 2.5 lbs by square foot.
It is used most For SCA or for more resistance.
10 % more expensive than 18 gauge steel
 
For a supplement I can also Black steel with some Acid. Effect gives a deep blue black finishes.
Coating of oil to preserve the blackening and gives a protection against the rust.
 
Stainless steel:
Do not rust.
Very good resistance.
 
I use 2 thicknesses.
-20 gauge .0375 inches 1 mm in thickness. Weight is 1.55 lbs by square foot.
Give a rather close resistance of gauge Steel 18.
In most cases it is used on a leather surface.
18 % more expensive than 18 gauge steel
 
-18 gauge .0500 inches 1.27 mm in thickness. Weight is 2.1 lbs square foot.
For a perfect solidity. It is a difficult metal to works , so not all items are available in this thickness.
50 % more expensive than 18 gauge steel
